Abstract

“This research aims to determine the trends of academic articles about gamification in educational settings and provide a roadmap for future studies on this research topic. Bibliometric analysis methods were used within the scope of the research carried out with the descriptive survey method. Research data were collected through the Web of Science (WoS) database. As a result of the filtering process on WoS, 798 scientific articles were included in the research. In the data analysis process, the distribution of the articles by years, WoS indexes, countries and publication language, the most cited articles and journals, the most collaborating countries, the most co-cited authors and journals, and the most used keywords were examined. The research results suggest that the articles were mainly published between 2012-2022, generally in English, and indexed and published in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI). Spain and the USA are the countries that publish the most, and England is the country that cooperates the most. Computers & Education is the most cited and co-cited journal. The keywords of gamification, higher education, and motivation were frequently used in the articles. The findings were discussed within the framework of the literature, and suggestions were made for future studies.”
