Summary

Two University of Kansas educators, Glennda McKeithan and Ann Marshall, evolved from novice users of gamification to co-authoring Gamification Made Simple: A Guide for Higher Education Professionals. Initially seeking better ways to engage future teachers of students with autism, they introduced role-playing games into their courses and saw dramatic increases in student engagement and participation. Encouraged by colleague Elizabeth Kozleski, they refined their approach, presenting nationally before publishing their book. Designed for beginners and experts alike, it offers research-based strategies, practical tools, and adaptable models for implementing gamification across disciplines, formats, and course lengths to enhance collaboration, communication, and real-world learning.
