Abstract
"As a disaster-prone country, Indonesia needs proper tools for disaster education. Serious games have the potential to be a useful tool for disaster mitigation training because they offer a fun learning environment to produce information that is easier to understand. The learning environment creates the immersive experience, one of the most important element in the game. Game activity design is essential to build the immersive experience. However, in most serious games, the game activities are poorly designed. In this study, we use Appreciative Learning as the fundamental concept to design game activities and enhance the immersive experience. Appreciative Learning emphasizes the discovery of potential, peak achievements, opportunities, and hope for the future. The four stages of appreciative learning are discovery, dream, design, and destiny. Then, Appreciative Learning based activities are are implemented to create more dynamic immersive experiences. As an experiment tool, the puzzle game for disaster mitigation, "Evakuator," is developed. The Game Experience Questionnaire measures player experience in playing Evakuator, scoring 3.3 out of 4."
