Summary

A board game library in Plymouth called Character Creation supports children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities by providing a safe, inclusive space to learn and socialise. Housing over 1,000 games, the project helps develop skills such as maths, problem solving and communication through play. Originally a Dungeons and Dragons meet-up for home-schooled children, it has expanded to serve wider age groups. Funded through event hire, game rentals and government grants, the library blends education and entertainment, reduces peer pressure, and challenges negative perceptions of play for both children and adults.
