Summary
Researchers developed real-time software tools to analyze student behavior in the educational game EcoJourneys, aiming to assess and improve collaborative problem-solving (CPS) skills. By tracking every in-game action of 61 middle school students, they identified behavior patterns linked to learning outcomes. This non-intrusive approach enables dynamic game adjustments to reinforce key CPS concepts and enhance learning. The framework uses constraint-based pattern mining—applied for the first time in education—to predict outcomes and inform targeted interventions. The ultimate goal is a self-improving system that evolves with user data, offering tailored support to help students develop critical CPS skills effectively.
