Summary

At Grand Canyon University’s VR Showcase, middle school students explored virtual reality games created by GCU computer science and software engineering students, inspired by novels they study such as Percy Jackson and Summer of the Mariposas. The event connected K–12 learners with university creators through a partnership with Phoenix’s Villa de Paz school district. GCU students used Unity to design immersive, literature-based VR experiences, overcoming technical challenges and learning through feedback. The showcase highlighted creativity, experiential learning, and collaboration, while sparking excitement among younger students. The partnership will continue, with middle schoolers helping design future VR projects.
