Summary
Virtual learning is becoming a lasting part of education, and researcher Matthew Schmidt of the University of Georgia is advancing it through Gaming 4 Good, a project that uses video game–based learning to engage neurodivergent students in STEAM subjects. Schmidt argues that virtual tools, especially after the pandemic, can meaningfully support learners with disabilities by creating richer learning experiences rather than simply delivering content. His work shows that video games can harness students’ strengths, boost engagement, and build problem-solving skills. Early success with middle-school participants has encouraged Schmidt to expand the project to reach a wider range of students and community partners.
