Summary

Working memory—the ability to hold small amounts of information briefly—is essential for daily cognitive tasks. Professor Susanne Jaeggi and her team at Northeastern University’s Brain Game Center found that targeted training can improve this function. In a study of 568 students, researchers used memory games and machine learning to predict learning patterns based on traits like cognitive ability, personality, and video game experience. Results showed that openness to experience and prior gaming exposure helped slow learners persist. The study suggests that personalized memory training could benefit a wide range of individuals, including older adults and those with cognitive challenges.
