Summary
Roguelike games are action-adventure games that typically feature dungeon exploration, turn-based mechanics, grid-based movement, and procedurally generated content. A key element is "permadeath," where players lose all progress upon death, adding difficulty. The term originates from the 1980 game Rogue, which inspired the genre's development. Roguelike games are characterized by complexity, resource management, and hack 'n' slash combat. Examples include ALTF4, Jupiter Hell, and Pokémon Mystery DungeonTM: Rescue Team DX. The genre has inspired "roguelite" games, which incorporate similar features but offer a more forgiving experience, such as Hades and Star Renegades.
