2025 Alachua County Civics Challenge exemplifies benefits of competition-based games in learning

Summary
Middle school students from seven schools competed in the eighth annual Civics Challenge in Alachua County, testing their civics knowledge through a fast-paced, game-show-style competition. Students answered questions in teams of five, earning points by buzzing in and collaborating on answers. The event, founded to promote civic engagement, combined fun with education, helping students prepare for civics exams and encouraging teamwork, critical thinking, and motivation. Lincoln Middle School claimed first place, with Fort Clarke and Westwood close behind. Organized by Jon Rehm, the challenge showcases students’ passion for civics and aims to inspire future community and political involvement.
